PHYSICAL EDUCATION
During my 2022 residency at TRIANGLE on Governors Island in New York, I used the abandoned colonel's home, where I was invited to work, as a theater venue to present my art. Playing with visitors' expectations, I reframed a term we know from our grammar school days, "Physical Education," into a lifelong subject by installing a selection of my work that references the personal and political aspects of our sexuality. In the second-floor bedroom and closet, I installed works from my Daphne's Choice and Love and Sex repertoire. On the first floor, I installed newly created works, such as my ode to Princess Diana and Mary Shelley’s Modern Prometheus. In the dining room, I installed smaller works, such as The Skin of Evil and Forbidden Fruit, in the entrance hallway. And for dramatic effect, I lit most areas throughout the house with blue lighting but let the white lights emanating from my dining room pieces to illuminate that space.
